Fire breaks out in Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik’s assembly chamber
Updated: 2016-04-27-13:55
Panic gripped the Odisha assembly premises as a major fire broke out in the chamber of chief minister Naveen Patnaik here on Wednesday. No injury or loss of life was reported.
Firefighters attributed the cause of fire to electric short circuit. Nobody was present in the chamber when the mishap occurred. Naveen, currently in Delhi on an official tour, is scheduled to return on Wednesday evening. DGP K B Singh and commissioner of police Y B Khurania rushed to the spot and supervised the exercise to control the fire.
“It was a clear case of electric short circuit near the television set. Luckily we doused the fire in time and prevented the blaze from engulfing the entire room. The TV has been damaged completely. The fire is under control,” said a fire service officer.
The incident occurred a day after Odisha assembly resumed its second phase session from Tuesday. MLAs cutting across party lines rushed to the CM’s chamber and took stock of the inferno. The home department asked the fire service wing to put in place adequate firefighting measures in the assembly and chambers of ministers.
