2 workers injured as chemical factory in Paravai catches fire

Two workers were injured after fire broke out in a private chemical factory in Paravai on Wednesday evening. More than 10 fire tenders from Madurai, Dindigul and Sivaganga were used to douse the fire. Fire personel took more than five hours to put out the fire.
The injured were identified as Saravanan, 47 and Sekar, 55, both hailing from Sokkanathapuram near Vilangudi in the city. There were rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital, where they were treated at department of plastic surgery. Doctors said that the workers sustained more than 70% injuries and their condition were critical. Jesus chemicals, the private factory that manufacturing a chemical called thinner is located on a 1,200 square feet area. Officials said that the fire broke out at around 4pm in one of its three chambers. Since the chemical is highly inflammable, the fire soon started spreading at other parts of the factory.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Initially, six fire tenders were used to douse the fire. More fire tenders, including a few from Dindigul and Sivaganga districts, had to be used. Higher officials from fire and rescue department were camping at the spot. District collector K Veera Raghava Rao rushed to the spot. The cause of the fire accident was under investigation.
