Updated: 2016-04-30-16:48

The giant Ferris wheel at Dinosaur Planet Park caught fire on Saturday afternoon.

A fire broke out on the Ferris wheel at Dinosaur Planet Park in Bangkok on Saturday afternoon but no one was on the ride at the time and no injuries were reported.

The fire began around 2.30pm at the park near Sukhumvit Soi 22 in Klong Toey district, according to the fire and rescue department of the Bangkok Metropolitan AdministratioFire engines from Klong Toey and other stations rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes, it said on its Twitter account. No injuries were reported.

The 500-million-baht amusement park opened on March 25, featuring several rides including the Dino Eye wheel which is about five stories high.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire. They suspect that an  electrical short-circuit was the problem.

Video clips showed visitors fleeing the park after the fire and the ride has been temporarily closed.

A Bangkok Post reporter near the scene said the fire was clearly visible from the Phrom Phong BTS station and visitors could still be seen lining up to buy tickets at around 3pm.

The park said on its Facebook page that no one was on the Ferris wheel when the fire broke out.
