Fire at illegal cracker warehouse put out after 3 hour fight
Updated: 2016-05-01-23:15
A fire that broke out in a cracker shop and warehouse, on Sunday was doused after the fire brigade and police force worked tirelessly for three hours. Although no injuries were reported the incident could have turned into a major tragedy. The police have sealed the warehouse as they claim it was set up illegally.
Najibabad’s Mohalla Vahid Nagar resident Kishan Lal is the owner of the cracker shop and warehouse. Eyewitnesses said the fire suddenly broke out in the warehouse and was traced only after Kishan Lal’s family members spotted smoke coming out from it.
Upon receiving information, officials rushed to the spot and tried to douse the flames. Around 50kg of crackers were reportedly burnt in the fire.
Najibabad SHO, Ajit Singh said, “We have managed to control the situation this time around. Kishan Lal only had a licence to sell crackers, not to store them next to his house. Storing crackers in a populated area is illegal. We have sealed the shop and have recovered about 4 quintal of crackers. A case is being registered against the shopkeeper.” The police is now inspecting other shops in the area.
