Houseboat gutted in fire in Alappuzha

A stationary houseboat was completely gutted in a fire in Alappuzha on Sunday. However, no casualty has been reported. North police station circle inspector V Babu told TOI it was three bed room St Alphonsa houseboat which gutted in the fire completely near Chembuthara temple, Aryad, Alappuzha.
“Though there were 30 tourists from Delhi inside the boat, they jumped out of the boat seeing the flames. The houseboat employees told the police that short circuit from inverter was the reason behind the fire. The gas cylinder also exploded in the fire. Some trees and coconut trees also caught fire. However, we have not received complaint from the houseboat owners. So we have not started any probe into the incident and if we get a complaint, we will probe the incident,” said Babu.
Though Alappuzha Fire and Rescue team arrived at the spot, their vehicle could not reach the spot as there were no proper ways to the spot. Following this, houseboat was completely gutted in the fire. Alappuzha MLA T M Thomas Isaac visited the spot.
