Fire traps duo, rescue in nick of time

More than 40 motorbikes were gutted in a massive fire at a garage in Badshapur on Tuesday night. Two of the workers, who got stuck in the first floor of the building, were rescued by nearby residents before the blaze engulfed the garage.
Five fire engines were rushed to the spot and the flames was doused firemen in about two hours. Another fire in Udyog Vihar, meanwhile, destroyed an office on Wednesday morning.
The garage was closed for the day when the fire broke out. Most workers had left for home but two of them were sleeping on the first floor. Nearby residents immediately informed the fire department and the fire engines were rushed to the spot.
The showroom was locked from inside and fire officers had to demolish the back wall with a land-mover to enter the building. The fire officials doused the flames in about two hours with the help of residents.
“We are yet to ascertain the reason for the fire. Some of the motorbikes in the garage had fuel left in them and this must have made the fire spread rapidly. Though we were able to stop the fire from spreading to other nearby shops, almost all bikes in the garage was destroyed in the fire,” said Beerbal Sharma, fire officer.
In another fire in the city, office of a private company in Udyog Vihar was gutted on Wednesday morning. The fire broke out at around 9.30am. A fire engine was immediately rushed to the spot from Udyog Vihar fire station. Another four engines were later brought from Sector 29 fire station and the fire was brought under control in around 2 hours. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
