Later, on hearing of the incident, Raja promised to rebuild the hut with his own money.

Three VCK workers held for assault: Police arrested three people for assaulting the owner of a call centre. Ramadurai, 46, was travelling on his two-wheeler with his wife Anjana riding pillion when the driver of a car belonging to some VCK functionaries began to honk from behind. When Ramadurai refused to give way, the functionaries assaulted him. Based on his complaint, the three were nabbed and are now in jail.

Court grants 3 days custody to serial killer, aides: The magistrate court in Alandur has granted police three days to question serial killer S Stephen, charged with murdering three people last year, along with three of his associates. The suspects will be produced before the court on Friday to be remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, police personnel have taken the suspects to a secluded place to interrogate them in detail.

“We are questioning Stephen about his sudden emergence into a successful businessman and whether he had killed a few more people using the cyanide syringe affixed to an umbrella,” an investigative officer said.

Police unearthed the serial murders while probing into the April 4 burglary at Stephen’s house on Hanuman Colony in Injambakkam. Police arrested three suspects — identified as Balaji, J Anandan and an engineering graduate V Satish Kumar — involved in the burglary at Stephen’s house. Subsequent interrogation of the arrested revealed that the trio was involved in murdering John Philomena in Thousand Lights on April 19, 2015, Sridhar of Uthiramerur on May 17 and Henry of Madipakkam on October 10.
