KATHMANDU: Three persons, including two children, were burnt to death in a fire that broke out in a four-storey house in Damaitole, just 400 metres from Basantapur Durbar Square in Kathmandu today.
The deceased have been identified as Devkala Magar Chaudhary (50) of Morang and two sons of Raj Kumar Siwakoti of Dolakha, Sanjeev (3) and Rajiv. The house belonged to Hanumandas Dangol and the deceased were his tenants.
According to police, the fire engulfed the house after a kerosene stove burst in Chaudhary’s room on the first floor at around 7 pm before it spread to other parts of the house. The two children were on the third floor when the incident occurred.
The charred bodies have been sent to TU Teaching Hospital for post-mortem. It took around an hour for firefighters of Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and Nepali Army, backed by fire engines, to douse the blaze. Security forces had to face a tough time driving fire engines to the incident site due to the congested roads.
