A fire that has ravaged Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Kuan Kreng peat swamp forest the past two days has caused damaged to 1,000 rai (160 hectares) of forestland.
The fire was brought under control yesterday and the local authority is monitoring the situation around the clock to prevent it starting again.
Only 500 rai of the Suan Somdet Chaofa Chulabhorn swamp forest in Moo 2,3, 5 and 7 in Tambon Cha-uat in Cha-uat district was spared.
Meanwhile, a separate fire at a peat swamp forest in Narathiwat’s Sungai Padi district yesterday smouldered in three large spots and the local authority planned to ask for another helicopter from the Army to help with the fire-fighting. The fire started on Tuesday.
