Updated: 2016-05-11 12:00

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (Bernama) — Five families living in a squatter area lost their homes and belongings when fire razed five houses at Kampung Chubadak Tambahan, here tonight.

Fire and Rescue Department senior operations commandeer Japari Tajudin said during the 7.15pm fire, five houses were destroyed but there were no human casualties.

“Fire fighters from Sentul, Gombak, Sri Hartamas, Keramat, Hang Tuah and assisted by volunteer fire fighters from Bukit Bintang and Sentul were rushed to the scene.

“The fire spread fast because the houses were located close to each other. We managed to prevent the fire from spreading or causing further damage,” he said.

One of the victims, Rosnah Lim Chai @ amli, 56, a single mother said she heard screams of fire from neighbours while watching television in her house and realised that her house was also on fire.

“My five children were not at home and I could only manage to save the identity card,” said Rosnah who has living in the village for 19 years.

Another victim, Gusmawati Khadir, 47, said the fire had started from her neighbour’s house.

“I was walking towards the bathroom when I noticed the fire and called out my fire Rosnah to inform her of the fire,” she said.
