Four suffer from smoke inhalation after fire at Hougang coffee shop

SINGAPORE – Four people suffered from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a coffeeshop at Block 246 Hougang Street 22 on Tuesday morning (May 17).
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call at 2.42am and dispatched two fire engines, two Red Rhinos, three ambulances and three support vehicles. A power saw was used to gain entry to the coffee shop. The fire, which involved the contents of the coffee shop, was extinguished using two water jets.
A total of 82 people were evacuated, and of the four who were affected by smoke inhalation, a man in his 50s and a woman in her 60s were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, while a six-year-old boy was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The fourth person declined to be taken to the hospital, SCDF said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
