KOTA KINABALU, May 20 (Bernama) — An 86-year-old woman and her granddaughter were found charred after their house in Kampung Contoh, Petagas was razed in a fire Thursday night.
Penampang Fire and Rescue station head, Mohammad Akramin Sakirun when contacted said the victims were identified as Tiah Awang and her granddaughter, Nurul Farhana Zulkifli, 15.
He said the bodies of both victims were found in one of four rooms of the house which was destroyed in the incident.
Meanwhile, Sabah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy K Ramin said the department was informed of the incident at about 8.29 pm and fire engines from Penampang and Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue stations arrived at the location about 13 minutes later.
The firefighters brought the blaze under control at 9.03 pm and saved more than 100 houses in the village from being gutted.
Meanwhile Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and Petagas state assemblyman Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin later visited the family of the fire victims and handed over his personal contribution as well as the contribution of the Putatan District Disaster Committee.
