250 Squatter Houses Destroyed In Kudat Blaze

KOTA KINABALU, May 23 (Bernama) — About 250 squatter houses were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Landung Ayang Laut in Kudat here early Monday.
A total of 222 families were affected by the fire which began about 5am.
According to a statement from the Sabah Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department operations centre, a team of 15 firemen in two engines brought the blaze under control at 7.30am.
Kudat District Officer Sapdin Ibrahim said some of the victims were placed at the Kampung Landung Ayang Laut community hall while the rest put up at homes of relatives.
He said the department was setting up about 30 tents at a school field nearby to help in accommodation.
