Two people, including a truck driver and his assistant, sustained burn injuries after a truck caught fire near Perundurai in Erode district on Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Om Prakash, 29 and his assistant K Rakesh, 25, both of Rajasthan. They were heading to Tirupur from Rajasthan, to deliver bleaching powder and when they neared Vavikkadai, near Perundurai Prakash stopped the truck near a petrol bunk as there was a heavy downpour.
Around 6am, smoke suddenly emanated from the truck. The truck caught fire and the duo were trapped in the truck. People rescued them from the truck cabin.
