Rubber factory fire: One succumbs to injuries, others still critical
Updated: 2016-05-28-22:35
One of the eight persons who was injured in a massive fire at a rubber factory in Partapur’s Industrial Estate area succumbed to his injuries late on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Kailash. The other seven people injured in the fire incident were identified as Devendra Kumar Sharma – the owner of the factory, Rajjo (36), Bhuwan (45), Gulfaam (35), Rishipal (55), Ankit (16), Kailash (33) and Vinod (35).
All of them were rushed to nearby hospitals. While Ankit, Rishipal, Kailash and Vinod were first taken to PL Sharma district hospital, they were later admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) medical college, Rajjo, Bhuwan, Gulfaam and Devendra were admitted to a private hospital.
As the condition of Kailash and Rishipal deteriorated at LLRM Medical College, they were further referred to different hospitals in Meerut.
“We discharged Kailash and Rishipal from the hospital because we did not have burn specialists and their situation was deteriorating. While Kailash, who had 85% burns, succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital, Rishipal is recuperating,” said Ajit Kumar, emergency medical officer, LLRM Medical College. Other patients’ health continued to remain critical on Saturday.
The fire, which started around 10:30am, is said to have been caused when gases developed in a drum of chemical used in the factory after coming into contact with a boiler. Four fire tenders were pressed into service and the firefighting staff took more than an hour to douse the leaping flames.
