Updated: 2016-06-05-07:18
A major fire broke out at Ankur Textiles, a unit of city-based Arvind Mill, on Saturday evening. The fire egnulfed finished and unfinished textile produce. Considering the intensity of the incident, Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) sounded brigade call, including 23 available vehicles in the firefighting operation. The operation was under way at the time of going to press.
As per AFES officials, they received a call about the fire at 5.45pm on Saturday from the mill located near Kantodiya vaas near Raipur Darwaja . Officials are yet to ascertain how the flames started or the actual damage.”We believe that the fire spread quickly due to large stashes of textile on the premises as it also engulfed various sections of the mill and also the machinery and equipments. We also had to ensure that the fire did not spread as the mill located near densly populated area and fire in nearby huts could have started another disaster,” said an AFES official.
Firemen had to seek help from city traffic police as the narrow lanes and traffic had stalled the movement of the fire brigade vehicles trying to get to the spot. AFES officials said that handling such a blaze in populated area required a very different strategy and equipments.
