Fire at Ayutthaya garbage dump under control

Flames creep across the burning rubbish dump in Tha Rua district of tambon Pho-en, Ayutthaya, on Sunday afternoon.
A fire that started at a garbage dump in Tha Rua district in tambon Pho-en on Sunday afternoon was finally declared under control about 2am on Monday after spreading across seven rai of the 10-rai rubbish tip, district chief Withit Pinnakhon said.
About 10 fire engines and more than 100 volunteers were called in to combat the fire.
After it was brought under control a new fesh of fire fighters was brought in to reliueve them and maintain a watch over the dump in case the blaze flared up again.
Public health officials were distributing face masks to people in nearby communities in tambons Pho-en and Pak Tha within a 2-3 kilometre radius of the dump site.
