Alarm saves many in factory fire
Updated: 2016-06-08-07:36
A fire broke out at a clothing manufacturing unit in Sector 37 near Hero Honda Chowk on Monday morning.
The blaze started in the second floor of Orient Craft Limited, while employees were working. However, no one was harmed because the fire alarm and sprinkler system went off on time.
More than seven fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was doused in 40 minutes. Three machines and a large stock of clothing material was gutted in the flames.
“A team of fire fighters reached the spot with a fire tender from the Sector 37 station. By then, the fire was under control because of the office’s own fire safety system. Orient Craft had upgraded their sprinkler system after another fire at the manufacturing unit. It proved helpful in dousing the flames,” said Narender Yadav, assistant fire officer.
“The fire was caused by a short circuit. However, no one was hurt in it,” added the fire officer.
A police team was also deployed in the area after the building was evacuated.
