Updated: 2016-06-08-10:03
A fire broke out at a godown in Pithampur late on Tuesday destroying assets worth lakhs of rupees.
The fire continued till 8:00 am before it could be brought under control. The blaze was triggered due to short circuit late on Monday in Prakash Solvex godown on the main road at sector 3 in Pithampur. Initially two fire tenders were rushed to the site. After battling with fire for more than 30 minutes, additional five fire tenders were called in.
“The flames were huge and it could not be brought under control for five hours. It took over 26 tankers and 1,500 litres of foam to douse the flames. The fire continued till 8:00 am and gutted the entire godown. The high flames could be seen from over a kilometre,” said Rajesh Sahay, SP, fire department.
A spare fire tender was kept ready for any untoward incident. The owners of the godown were also present on the spot and claimed that their combined loss was estimated to worth lakhs. No casualty was reported but the owners have suffered losses, said police.
“The flames were triggered due to short circuit at the warehouse and before we could reach the spot the godown had already gutted. We were informed by the locals after they saw smoke coming out of the godown,” said Sahay.
