A fire destroyed 32 shanties at Sanyal Nagar at Jaripatka on Wednesday. It is learnt, the fire broke out due to a short circuit. Fortunately, no loss of life was reported.
Police said the hutments belonged to labourers working at the site of under-construction Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International convention centre. Vishal Thakkar and Swapnil Kinnarwar of D Thakkar company are the contractors.
The fire broke out at one of the shanties and soon engulfed other hutments. Labourers who were working at the site were alerted by their family members. Three fires tenders were summoned to douse the flames.
