School bus bursts into flames in Thaketa township

A bus ferrying around 50 students from Myanmar Maritime University burst into flames on June 6.
The bus was driving on Shuginthar Road in Thaketa township just before 5pm when there was a sound of an explosion, according to Police Lieutenant Myint Zaw Oo’s report.
The number 174 bus shook and the gas pipe was destroyed just beyond the Thanlyin Bridge traffic light.
The students and driver ran from the bus after it caught fire. No one was killed.
Five fire trucks and 44 township firefighters extinguished the flames. The school estimates K5 million was lost in the wreckage. Police are questioning the driver.
