Devastating fire breaks out at a news daily office in Kolkata

A devastating fire broke out at the office of a reputed English news daily located at Esplanade on Saturday night. Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
According to officials of the news daily, the fire broke out at the systems room in the third floor of the building. The matter was immediately informed to the fire services and disaster management officials as fire fighters rushed in. Senior police officers also arrived at the spot.
Several employees of the office initially were stuck inside the building as fire fighters started evacuation to vacate out everybody from the building. Smoke was seen coming out from the third floor of the building as panic struck among employees and others surrounding the building. The long sky ladders were used as fire fighters entered at all the floors to check whether there was anybody stuck inside. All the employees were managed to be evacuated from the building. KMC mayor and fire services department minister Sovan Chatterjee went to the spot along with other KMC and fire services officials to look into the matter.
Officials said that preliminary it is suspected that the fire broke out from a short circuit. Forensic tests will be conducted as samples will be collected from the spot to find out the exact cause of the fire.
