Fire leaves 70 homeless in Tabunok, Talisay City
Updated: 2016-06-10-00:00

At least five houses were razed by fire yesterday afternoon in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, leaving at least 70 individuals homeless and P200,000 in structural damage.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Rodulfo Luage, chief investigator of Talisay City Fire Station, said they received the fire alarm at 3 p.m. and was declared under control 30 minutes later.

It was raised to second alarm where neighboring fire stations in Cebu City and Minglanilla also responded.

The fire allegedly started on the second floor of the house owned by Lorna Ysalina. An unattended cellphone charger was believed to have caused the blaze.

Luage said Ysalina will be called for further questioning and to determine the cause of the fire. In an interview, Ysalina denied the fire was started by an unattended charger. She believes it may have been caused by electrical short circuit.

Ysalina said she did not have electrical connection in her house and was just connecting power from their neighbor.

A newly built house owned by Gay Marie Avigail Caballero was among the five houses razed by fire. Caballero said the house was built from the money sent by her husband working in Kuwait.

She said everything that her husband worked for had been reduced into ashes, including the school supplies of their children who are already attending school on Monday.
