Woman constable’s room set on fire in Dausa
Updated: 2016-06-11-07:52

Unidentified persons on Thursday night set ablaze a woman police constable’s room, while she was sleeping in her rented accommodation in Dausa. This was perhaps done to burn her alive.

Police officials said that someone poured kerosene on the wooden gate and other places in the room and then set it on fire. The landlord and neighbours somehow managed to douse the fire and saved the woman. The constable has registered an FIR .

The incident took place in Dausa’s Shyam Colony, situated on Maheshwara Road. The constable, Saroj Saini, who is deputed in reserve police lines in Dausa, lives alone in the house as the landlord and his family stay in Delhi. The landlord’s brother Ramesh Chand Sharma stays on an adjacent property.

Saroj woke up in the middle of night to find her room on fire. She started screaming. The landlord’s brother, Rameshchand Sharma, and other neighbours who heard her cries for help rushed to her rescue. By that time, the fire had engulfed the entire door, making it impossible for the woman to come out.

The landlord and neighbours poured buckets of water on the flames and controlled the fire. They then pulled out the woman. Police said that she escaped unhurt. “It is quite evident that it was an attempt to burn the constable alive. Someone had thrown pieces of clothes drenched in kerosene into the room. Besides, kerosene was found on the room’s floor, windows and other places so that the fire could spread quickly,” said a police officer.

The officer said that they have launched an investigation to ascertain the culprits and their motive. “The constable has not expressed suspicion on anyone. She says that nobody had any animosity towards her,” said the officer.
