Fire guts two classrooms in Carcar City
Updated: 2016-06-16-00:00
Two classrooms of a school in Carcar City were damaged in a fire caused by an unplugged wall fan around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Carcar Bureau of Fire Protection immediately responded to the fire at Oca単a National High School and declared a fire out around 9:40 p.m.
Initial investigation reveals that the cause of fire was the wire of an unplugged wall fan of a classroom.
The fire eventually reached the adjacent classroom.
The building was a science classroom for Grade 8 students.
FO1 Eriko Alegarbef said that the damage cost is estimated at P500,000 since it includes the building structure and books and materials.
School Head Michelle Hechanova said that the building was donated by former governor Gwendolyn Garcia in 2009.
She clarified that the electric fan was off but was still plugged to the extension wire.
“Wala ni siya gaandar, wala lang gyud ibta, mahibaw-an mani kung gaandar kay naa man tay mga security guard nga mo-roam around the school. Unya confirmed na siya sa guard. Ang kanang wall fan naa sa babaw ang outlet. Naka plug ra pirme ang wall fan, unya ang on and off kay kanang bitadbitaron lang, mao nay na used sa teachers kay taas ra unya dili sayun makab-ot, this is for how many years,” she said.
“Kinahanglan mi mag rewiring kay pag-construct sa building ang mga wires naa sa babaw so lisud siya abton,” she added.
She added that she already scheduled a wiring inspection from the Bureau of Fire Protection. The BFP reportedly conducted a wiring inspection in the school last year and recommended for the wirings to be changed.
However, Hechanova said that the damaged building was not included in the remarks of BFP.
The grade 8 students, whose classrooms were affected by the fire, were temporarily settled in the covered court.
Hechanova said that today the students will stay in one of the classrooms of Oca単a Elementary School, which is located near their school.
