Gas pipeline leakage sparks fire, two injured
Updated: 2016-06-17-05:32
Two persons suffered burn injuries when a domestic gas pipeline got ruptured on Old Padra Road on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred when some private firm was digging a road near Abhishek Complex. A gas line under the road got damaged that led to leakage. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) men rushed to the spot and plugged the leakage.
When the digging work started again, a spark led to flames, causing burn injuries to a VMC employee and a contractual worker present there. The injured identified as Vijay Solanki and Mukesh Bhabhor were rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
“We are yet to ascertain what caused the spark that gave ignition to the gas. It may have been because of some equipment used by the firm,” said Om Jadeja, fire officer.
There is a similar incident again on the OP Road when a gas pipeline ruptured during digging work. However, an alert passer-by informed the fire brigade that called up the VMC men who repaired the line.
Jadeja said that many private firms don’t seek necessary permissions before digging up roads and hence they are not aware of the pipelines passing below. About 20 days ago, a leaking gas pipeline in Ellora Park had left two injured. Some private firm had damaged the pipeline while digging up the road that led to leakage and fire.
