185 shops in Vashi mall get fire dept notices

The city’s fire department has issued 185 notices to various shops located inside Fantasia mall complex, Vashi for haphazardly installing air-conditioners, posing a potential fire hazard to the entire structure.
Chief fire officer, P Gadhe, told TOI, “We conducted an inspection at the mall and were surprised to find so many ACs in odd positions. The mall should ideally have a centralized air-conditioning.”
Several ACs have been put up in the corridors of the complex. This has left hardly any space for the public to walk. Also, the hot air emitted by ACs heats up the interior of the mall, the officer said.
“Just one short-circuit in any of the ACs can lead to a major fire in the complex. That is why we want fire safety rules to be followed. We will be checking fire safety measures in other malls and shopping centres,” Gadhe said.
