Minor fire at Rajaji Hospital

A minor fire broke out at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai on Friday. No one was injured in the incident. The incident took place at ward 62, the outpatients’ ward of the Department of Psychiatry. Hospital sources said the fire broke out following a blast inside the locked building. Police said the blast could have occured due to an LPG cylinder leakage. Fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and put out the fire. The windows of the building were damaged in the incident. A case was registered with the GRH police station and inquiries carried out.

Man commits suicide:

A man wanted by the police for attacking his sister-in-law committed suicide by consuming poison. Madurai Selvam, 37, of Kamalankulam in Tirunelveli, attacked his sister-m-law following a quarrel two days back. Following this the woman lodged a complaint with the Manur police, who registered a case and were on the lookout for Selvam. On Thursday, Selvam consumed poison. He was rushed to a government hospital where he succumbed on Friday.
Cash stolen from school:
The Madurai rural police are searching for miscreants who broke into a school in Sholvandan and decamped with cash, which police said could run into lakhs. The incident came to light on Friday evening when security personnel found the main door of the administration building broken. They immediately informed to the school administration. The Sholavandan police said that they are awaiting a formal complaint from the school authorities.
