At least 60 houses were razed by fire yesterday afternoon in Barangay Apas, Cebu City leaving over 200 individuals homeless.
Fire investigator Joefrey Solon estimated the damage at P800,000. The fire department received the alarm at 12 noon and declared the fire under control 40 minutes later.
There was no report of fatality and injury.
Solon said initial investigation revealed that the fire started at the house of Robert Petillona. He said the cause of the fire is still subject to further investigation.
He said Petillona will be invited for questioning to determine the origin of the fire.
Barangay Captain Ramil Ayuman said he will call an emergency session today to declare Sitio Lower RD, PC Hills under state of calamity. Ayuman said the barangay will give housing materials to 210 affected individuals.
He is also soliciting assistance from his well-meaning friends to help the affected families. In a radio interview, Ayuman said he had asked a catering company to sponsor at least one meal for the victims.
The victims are temporary sheltered at the chapel and at the basketball court in PC Hills.
