A driver escaped injury after a fire broke out under his car’s bonnet while he was travelling in Lam Luk ka district of Pathum Thani on Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the fire on the outbound lane of Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in front of Sangkeet School in tambon Khu Khot at about 3pm. They found the front of a Hyundai sedan engulfed in flames and the owner of the car, identified later as Niwat Ruangying, 42, was standing nearby with a shocked look on his face.
It took fire crews about 10 minutes to put out the blaze.
Mr Niwat told police he left his home in Don Muang district and was heading to a golf venue in the Rangsit area when he smelled something burning. He decided to pull over and got out of his vehicle shortly after smoke began to stream out from under its bonnet and a fire erupted, spreading quickly to engulf the entire front part of the vehicle.
Mr Niwat’s car was not fuelled by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
A preliminary inspection indicated a short in his car’s electrical system combined with extreme heat in the afternoon may have caused the fire, police said.
