3 structures affected: Electric fan overheats, sparks fire
Updated: 2016-07-04-00:00

A fire destroyed a house and damaged two other residential units in Barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City around 8 a.m. yesterday.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Climaco Salisid, chief investigator of Lapu-Lapu City Fire District said the fire started at the house of a couple identified as Fidji and Rexon Castro.

An electric fan that reportedly overheated inside the couple’s house started the fire, said Climaco.

He said their office received the alarm at 8:57 a.m. and a group of fire responders were dispatched to the area.

From the Castro couple’s house, the fire reportedly spread to its neighboring apartment owned by Evangeline Yampoy.

The fire also spread out to another two-storey house situated next to the couple’s and owned by Felicitas Villega.

Salisid said Yampoy and Villega are renting out the apartment and two-storey house, respectively, and were not staying on them.

The structures affected by the fire were made of mixed light and concrete materials, the fire investigator further said.

The fire was controlled at 9:04 a.m.

Salisid said the fire responders took a long time in putting out the fire inside the couple’s house because they first responded to Villega’s house.

The fire was put out at 10 a.m.

The damage was pegged at P80,000.
