SINGAPORE – A fire that engulfed a two-storey warehouse took 60 firefighters three hours to put out, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said.

SCDF said in a Facebook post that it was alerted to the fire at 5 Sungei Kadut Crescent at about 2.10am on Saturday.

The fire involved timber and stacks of heavy vehicle tyres in a warehouse measuring approximately 60m by 40m, it said.

Sixty firefighters used a total of 12 water jets, an aerial monitor and two unmanned firefighting machines in the “complex firefighting operation”.

“Having contained the fire, SCDF utilised foam to penetrate into the heart of the fire,” it said in its Facebook post.

It also used water to wet burnt surfaces immediately after the fire was put out in a “damping down” operation. This is to prevent any rekindling of the fire from the hot burnt surfaces.

When SCDF arrived, most of the workers at the factory and warehouse had evacuated.

Firefighters evacuated another seven workers, and occupants from neighbouring factories.

There were no reported injuries, and blaze was extinguished by 6am. The cause of fire is being investigated.

SCDF sent a total of five fire engines, three Red Rhinos, two unmanned firefighting machines, 10 support vehicles and one ambulance.
