Fire at airport rages for an hour

A fire broke out near the departure gate of the international terminal of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city on Thursday. The fire was controlled in about an hour. No casualty was reported in the incident.
“The fire broke out in a store room of the AC plant, next to the manager’s cabin outside the international terminal of the airport on Thursday morning at around 10 am. Fire tenders standing by with the airport authority were rushed to the spot and we got control over the fire within an hour,” said officials at SVPI airport.
“No staffer nor passenger was injured in the incident,” said officials. Eyewitnesses said fliers had panicked on seeing flames and smoke billowing out of the store-room.
Sources said no major damage was done as only house-keeping stores were kept in the room. SVPI authorities have commissioned an inquiry into the incident and have sought a detailed report, said sources.
In February, a transformer outside the airport had caught fire due to a short-circuit.
SVPI airport director A K Sharma was not available for comment on the issue.
