Updated: 2016-07-20-22:54

In an act of revenge, a man set on fire a photographer’s studio here on Tuesday night. Footage of CCTV cameras installed at the studio revealed that the arsonist was a radiologist, owner of an ultrasound centre which was sealed by the Haryana police recently on the charges conducting sex-determination tests. The radiologist had come out on bail only three days ago, and held photographer responsible for his plight, police said.

The studio is located on Mandawar road near the district hospital in the city. According to the studio owner, Umesh Kumar, “I closed my studio around 8pm on Tuesday night. Late in the night someone informed me that my studio has been burnt to ashes. I rushed to the spot and called the fire brigade. Fire tenders rushed to my shop and doused the fire before it could spread to adjacent establishments.”

Kumar said, “When I checked the CCTV footage, I saw the ultrasound centre’s owner approaching my studio carrying a lantern and a bottle of flammable liquid. He the poured the fuel on my studio and set it on fire. The studio has been completely gutted. My all cameras and other equipment have been destroyed. The losses cam go up to Rs 7 lakh.”

Kumar filed a complaint against the accused radiologist in Bijnor police station.

According to Bijnor SHO Rajveer Singh, “We have received a complaint against an ultrasound centre’s owner. We are checking the CCTV footage. If the allegations are proved, a case will be lodged against accused. The matter is being probed.”
