Fire scare at petrol pump in Salt Lake
Updated: 2016-07-27-21:11
Several had a narrow escape from what could have been a disaster after a fire broke out at a petrol pump premise at a busy area opposite City Centre in Salt Lake on Wednesday. The petrol pump has been closed down for an indefinite period.
Locals said that the fire broke out around 5.50pm. A testing was going on in one of the pumping machines and the fuel was being kept in a bucket. A biker came at the place asking for fuel as the petrol pump staff asked the biker to take fuel from another machine. As the biker started off, a spark occurred as the bucket full of oil blasted on fire.
There were several people and many other vehicles at the place when the incident occurred. Luckily, nobody was injured as the petrol pump staff and locals, including some auto drivers managed to bring the fire under control from spreading. Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot after some time to douse the fire but the fire was under control by then. Traffic was disrupted for some time as the place was cordoned off. Situation was brought under control within 30 minutes.
