Moving car catches fire on NH stretch at Anayara
Updated: 2016-07-28-11:55

Panic gripped Anayara as a moving car caught fire on the national highway on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred around 11am, when a Tata Indigo car, which was heading towards Kulathur, caught fire. Though there were two passengers inside the car, nobody was injured. Police said the car belonged to one Rajesh and was driven by Yohannan, both employed at a news channel.

Police said that the passengers spotted smoke emanating from the car and immediately stopped the vehicle. As soon as they got off the car, the car went up in flames. Local residents rushed to the scene and fire force and police were alerted. Two units of fire tenders from Chackai reached the spot and fire was doused within 15 minutes and the car was almost completely burnt.

Pettah station house officer Sunukumar said that the car might have burnt of a mechanical error. “We didn’t find anything suspicious or something that could raise alarm. It might have been a mechanical error. We have sought a report from fire force,” he said.

Fire force personnel said that they are yet to affirm the cause of fire. “Usually such incidents happen because of short circuit. We are yet to file a report on this,” said a fire-force officer. Traffic on the stretch was affected for more than an hour.
