4 hurt after fire breaks out in hawker stall at Old Airport Road

SINGAPORE – Four people were injured after a fire broke out at the Old Airport Road Food Centre on Tuesday (Aug 2) morning.
The fire occurred in one of the corner food stalls on the first floor of the two-storey hawker centre at around 10am, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a Facebook post.
The Straits Times understands that the stall that caught fire is called Xin Mei Congee, which sells porridge and other dishes.
Two men and a woman with burns to their arms and hands were taken to Singapore General Hospital, it added.
The fourth casualty – a man who sustained a cut to his right hand – refused to be taken to hospital.
SCDF said preliminary fire investigation revealed that the flash fire could be caused by repairs being carried out to the stall’s gas supply.
A fire engine and two fire bikes were deployed by SCDF, although the food centre’s sprinkler systems had put out the fire prior to its arrival.
