Car in Mulayam’s convoy catches fire

An Ambassador car in the security convoy of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav burst into flames after a minor explosion at his official residence, 16, Ashoka Road, around 6.30pm on Friday. No casualties or injuries were reported. Yadav was not in Delhi.
The car (DL1C K 4325) belonged to the security unit of Delhi Police. It caught fire soon after coming out of the garage. Securitymen got pipes from the adjoining bungalow and put out the fire.
Police are probing if a short circuit in the battery caused the fire as it was damaged due to excessive usage. Forensic experts have examined the car to rule out foul play. The mechanic and driver of the vehicle are being questioned about the maintenance of the vehicle. Senior police officers said an alert was sounded after the explosion because the incident took place in a high security area.
