Updated: 2016-08-10-00:00
A fire believed to have sparked from electrical misuse destroyed eight houses at Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City Tuesday dawn.
The fire started at the living room of Fernando Cabilen Sr. at around 1:30 a.m., said Senior Fire Officer 1 Climaco Salisid, investigator at the Lapu-Lapu City Fire District.
Salisid said the fire spread out to other neighboring houses owned by Melchor Augusto, Cecilio Augusto, Francisco Paquibot, Lydia Aneran, Elesenio Paquibot, Dolores Sinambong and Edwin Pangatungan.
The city’s fire district office received the alarm at 1:31 a.m. and was raised on second alarm status. Fire responders arrived in the area at 1:33 a.m., according to Salisid.
The fire was controlled within six minutes and declared completely put out at 3 a.m.
Affected residents are now temporarily housed in tents near the fire site while the barangay officials and staff from the City Social Welfare Services provided relief goods and clothes for them.
Salisid said the incident left an estimated damage of around P80,000.
Last August 1, a fire also destroyed five houses and damaged one more in Sitio Sampaguita, Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City, leaving behind P350,000 worth of damage to properties.
SFO2 Cipriano Codilla of Mandaue City Fire Station said the fire allegedly started from a welding activity at the back of Francisca Pegarido’s house around 4 p.m. that day.
