Fire swallows showroom of cars in Jinsi, one critical

A worker was critically injured when a major fire broke out in a showroom on Jinsi Road on Saturday. It took fours hours for 24 fire tenders to bring the blaze under control, which caused extensive damage to the entire store and record room. Employee, Shahid, 30, is being treated in a private hospital. No car was damaged in the fire.
Akhtar Ali, an officer at Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), said the fire was reported around 8 am and might have been caused due to a short-circuit. No car in the workshop was damaged. The fire, which began from oil storeroom room behind the workshop, soon spread to the entire workshop, he said.
When a plastic shed caved in there was a loud explosion, which rocked the building.
The automobile showroom is one of three on a busy state highway. BMC officials said the car showroom was in the middle of two other workshops in the area. BMC officials suspect the fire could have been triggered by a short-circuit and asked the company for CCTV footage.
The estimated loss in the fire is expected to be around Rs 1 crore. Mechanics, who were present in the showroom, ran out of the showroom to save themselves from the leaping fire and many tried to remove cars.
Earlier this month, BMC anti-encroachment drive focused their attention on automobile showrooms after they were found violating norms by parking vehicles on busy main road.
