Man burnt alive as house catches fire
Updated: 2016-08-14-02:43

A 48-year-old man from Mandi Mohalla was burned alive after his house caught fire in the wee hours of Saturday.

Police said Ansar Pasha, a resident of Sultan Pasha Road, was a scrap collector. He came home after work on Friday and had reportedly consumed alcohol at a nearby bar. As the power supply was disconnected for defaulting on payment, police suspect he may have lit a candle before going to sleep.

It’s suspected the candle fell on his bed in the morning and the fire spread to the clothes and wooden items kept nearby. Pasha, who was in deep slumber, was charred to death.

Neighbours, who noticed the blaze, immediately called the fire service. Firemen managed to douse the fire and prevented it from spreading to other houses. Mandi police inspector Lakshmikanth Talvar said the house was filled with wooden items, and the fire spread rapidly.

Police said the house belonged to Pasha’s brother-in-law Bashir Ahmad. After Bashir shifted to Bengaluru, Pasha stayed alone in the building as he had separated from his wife a few years ago.
