Fire in SP office consumes several confidential documents
Updated: 2016-08-16-23:22
A major fire broke out in the office of superintendent of police (SP) on Monday night here, gutting several important files.
The cause of the blaze was not clear, however, prime facie, it erupted due to electric short circuit, police said.
The blaze started around 11pm on Monday and engulfed the record room close to the SP office.
Several fire tenders were pushed into service to douse the flames. The fire engines took over three hours to tame the blaze, which gutted several “confidential” records, sources said.
“The fire started on Monday night. Prima facie, it seems that the fire started due to short circuit. However, the truth will only be known after a thorough probe. Some documents have been burnt,” said Udai Shankar Singh, additional superintendent of police (ASP).
The department has formed a team to find out the cause of the fire.
“We have formed a five-member team to probe the matter,” he said.
