Three persons were injured in two different fires reported in the city. The major fire of the day was reported from a residential building located at a populated Burrabazar area in central Kolkata. Police said that the fire broke out around 9.30 am on Western Street where electrical wires were hanging dangerously.

Police fear a short circuit had led to the incident. Three persons were injured in the process and was admitted at the Calcutta Medical College.

Cops said that five fire tenders responded to the call and brought the fire under control by 11 am. The injured have been identified as Alok Chowdhury (55), Mirza Jahangir (45) and Charan Singh (32). The fire originally broke out on the first floor of the five-story building. Several residents living on the third and fourth floor thus got trapped before fire brigade officials rescued them. Over all, five fire tenders were pressed in to service.

In the other incident at Topsia, a rubber sandal factory caught fire on the Topsia road at 3.28 am on Saturday. The fire was brought under control in the next 20 minutes even as one fire tender responded to the call. No one was injured in this incident.
