Garment showroom gutted in fire

A major fire broke out at a garment showroom in Syohara area in the heart of the city on late Friday night.
At least 12 fire tenders took 11 hours to put down the fire, which, according to the showroom owner, destroyed goods worth Rs 2.5 crore.
However, no one was injured in the blaze.
The owner of the showroom, Aftab Ahmad, said: “I had a showroom and a warehouse in Bada Bazaar. We lived on the first floor of the building, while the shop was on the ground floor. Around 11pm, we noticed smoke emanating from the shop. After some time the fire broke out.”
The police and the fire tenders were rushed to the spot, however, the inferno was brought under control by Saturday morning.
The goods and the shop were not insured, but the district administration has assured government help to the shop keeper.
“The shop was not insured. However, the owner’s name is registered with the tax department. We will try to provide some economic help to the merchant from the government. We are preparing a report in this regard,” said chief development officer (CDO) Indramani Tripathi.
