40 families lose homes to fire in Manila

Some 40 families lost their houses to a fire early Sunday morning in Manila’s Sampaloc district.
A GMA News report said the fire destroyed 15 houses along Lacson Ave. in Barangay 419, Zone 43.
An initial investigation showed that the fire may have been sparked by faulty electrical wiring at the house of a certain Dorothy Abiegos.
The elderly Abiegos said she was sleeping at the time and was awaken to a raging fire inside her house.
Witnesses said the fire started from the roof of the house and crept down to the sala.
Abiegos alleged that illegal electrical connections near her house may have been the cause of the fire.
Except for Abiegos who suffered minor burns in her hand, no one was reported hurt in the fire that was declared fire-out at 2:38 a.m.
Further investigation for the cause of the fire is ongoing.
