Fire burns hotel in Jakarta, killing two people

A fire broke out in a karaoke room of the Grand Paragon Hotel, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, on Monday, leading to two people suffocating to death in thick smoke.
The fire reportedly began at about 9:30 a.m. because of an electrical failure. More than 30 fire trucks were deployed to put out the blaze.
The two dead were a security officer and a visitor.

“They were killed after breathing in smoke.,” said Taman Sari Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Nasriadi on Monday, adding that the police would continue to investigate. (dan)
