No arson in fire that destroyed ministry official’s car, say police
Updated: 2016-11-08 10:45

PUTRAJAYA: Refuting a viral text message, police said a fire that destroyed a car belonging to a Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs officer on Monday night was not an act of arson.

Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Rosly Hassan said during the 8.30pm incident, the wife of the officer had returned home in Presint 9 after buying food in a Honda Accord.

The woman had parked the car in the porch when she smelt something burning.

“As she exited the car, she could see smoke coming out of the bonnet of the car,” ACP Rosly said.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived shortly and put out the fire.

“Initial investigations by the Fire and Rescue Department did not show any elements of arson,” ACP Rosly said, adding that the 35-year-old officer was not at home when the incident occurred.
