Lucky escape as two scramble out of burning vehicle

KOTA KINABALU: Two men escaped with only minor injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off a road, crashed and caught fire.
They were at the 12th kilometre of the Bandar Labuk Jaya road when the incident occurred at 11.15pm Monday.
It is believed that the driver lost control of the four-wheel-drive vehicle, causing it to skid off the road before it crashed into a drain.
The two men scrambled out of the vehicle and ran upon seeing flames.
Passers-by rushed the two men to hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
When contacted Tuesday, Sandakan fire and rescue station chief Anddre Andrew said a fire engine with four firemen was sent to the scene upon receiving a distress call.
“The vehicle was already in flames by the time our men reached the location less than 10 minutes after receiving the call,” he said.
The blaze was brought under control at 11.30pm and doused at 11.42pm.
