Updated: 2016-11-30 12:00
BATU PAHAT: A group of 30 Chinese tourists escaped unhurt after the tour bus they were travelling on caught fire along the North-South Expressway.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Wahib Musa said the bus was heading from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur when one of its tyres burst at the 92nd kilometre between Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng at about 5pm yesterday.
The driver immediately stopped the vehicle by the roadside and the passengers got off. Not long after, the bus caught fire and was completely destroyed, he said in a statement here.
According to Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Ramli Said, a team was sent to the scene after they received a distress call just after 5pm.
By the time the team arrived at the scene, the bus was already burnt.
Ramli said another bus was sent to pick up the tourists, their belongings and their tour guide.
“The cause of the fire is still being investigated,” he said.
