KOTA KINABALU: A 31-year-old man perished in a fire that destroyed his double-storey wooden house at Kampung Kubambangan Paitan in Sabah’s east coast Beluran district.
The charred remains of Ritaudin Ghapur were found by firemen at about 11.20pm Sunday.
A spokesman for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Services Department said Monday that two vehicles were destroyed in the 7pm fire.
The spokesman could not immediately say how many people were inside the house at the time of the fire.
He said a distress call was received at around 7.42pm and firemen from Kinabatangan station were despatched to the location about 192km away, arriving at around 11.02pm.
“The house was already razed to the ground. Our men put out the fire before searching for Ritaudin,” he said, adding that firemen from Kota Marudu also assisted in putting out the blaze.
The body has been taken to the hospital mortuary.
